English
This half term we have been reading How To Find Gold by Viviane Schwarz. We read and enjoyed the book and we based our writing on their adventures. We worked hard on improving our sentence structure. We looked at expanded noun phrases and how they make our writing more interesting. We collected imaginative and exciting adjectives to help us. We retold the story using puppets and drama to help us to understand the characters.
Maths
This half term we have been using our place value skills to partition 3-digit numbers. We have used number bonds and known number facts to help solve tricky calculations. We have looked at addition and subtraction. We began by recapping on our work in Year 2 and then we moved onto column addition with and without regrouping. We also worked hard on improving our quick recall of times tables facts using Times Tables Rock Stars.

We have looked at seasons and weather patterns and how the geography of a country affects the weather. We have looked at temperature and rainfall charts and recorded data on our own charts.
Computing
We have been learning how to navigate around the computer keyboard. We have learned where all the keys are and improved or typing speed using games on Purple Mash.
Art and Design
We have used charcoal and pastels to create fossil drawings. We observed fossils carefully, looking for light and shade, and shape. We used charcoal to create a grounding and then draw our fossil over the top.
