As part of our theme this half term we have looked at the books Lost and Found and Story of the Zodiac.
In Literacy, we have been continued to work hard in our phonics and started to look and identify diagraphs in our reading and writing. We have practiced forming letters correctly and writing our own simple sentences. We have lots of practice learning our tricky words by making watches and doing some rainbow writing.
In Maths we looked at focussing on our number bonds to 5. We recapped on the value of 10 first before we began understanding the concept of addition and what the symbols add and equals look like as.
In Expressive Arts we have been listening to different genres of music and discussing how it makes us feel through movements we make in response to it. We have been exploring different art mediums such as pencil, chalk and crayons. We have created Chinese Lanterns as part of our learning of the Lunar New Year.
In Understanding the World we have looked closely at the country of China, what the country is like and how it is different to where we live. We looked at the different types of clothes and food people in China eat and wear. We spoke about how we celebrated our New Year and how the Lunar New Year is different as part of our RE. We have sorted vehicles into present and past as part of our History knowledge.
In Science we have explored what magnets do and how they are attracted to metal. We then went and found things around the classroom that were metal and discovered magnets don’t work on plastic and wood. We have also explored floating and sinking and what types of materials that float and sink.
As part of our PHSE topic we have been discussing what our goals are and how we can achieve them. We spoke about challenges and how we can overcome them by being resilient and not giving up straightaway. We also discussed about how we can help each other when they find something difficult.
