Welcome to our Autumn update!
What a great start to the year for Year 4!
Here is our Proud Board showcasing some of the beautiful work our children have done:
A special request – Please could we ask that parents and carers assist the children with their reading, homework and their Times Tables Rock Stars practice. It is so, so important that the children are practicing these skills daily and this will make a big difference back in the classroom.
Here are what the children have been up to this term:
In Maths, our pupils have been exploring partitioning, a crucial skill for understanding numbers and improving their calculations. They have also been focusing on measuring accurately in both centimetres and millimetres, ensuring they can apply this knowledge in practical scenarios. Bar charts have become a fun way for them to represent data visually, and they have delved into column addition and subtraction, reinforcing their number skills with confidence.
In English, we have taken an exciting journey back to the time of the Romans. Students have been learning about the fascinating history of Pompeii and the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. They’ve put their creative writing skills to the test by crafting postcards and brochures that depict what life was like during those ancient times. It’s been wonderful to see their imaginations run wild while learning about this significant period in history.
In Geography, we have introduced the concept of Fair Trade and discussed its importance in our global economy including the historical Silk Road. This topic not only enhances pupils’ understanding of commerce but also fosters a sense of social responsibility as they recognise the significance of supporting ethical products. We have also looked at how different countries trade with each other including imports and exports from the United Kingdom.
When it comes to History, our investigations into the Romans continue to thrive. The pupils have shown great enthusiasm in learning about their traditional ways of life, the impact they had on Britain, and their enduring legacy. We have learned about the Roman invasion, the key figures such as Emperor Claudius, Emperor Julius Ceasar, Caratacus and Boudicca.
In Religious Education, we have celebrated Diwali, exploring the story of Rama and Sita and how this tells a tale of good overcoming evil. This beautiful narrative has allowed students to appreciate cultural diversity and learn about different traditions celebrated within our community. Pupils have also reflected on things that influence them and their own individual searches for personal meaning.
Spanish lessons have been lively and interactive! Students have been practising how to greet someone in Spanish by asking, “How are you?” and “What is your name?” Plus, they’ve been introducing themselves with “My name is…” and learning to count in Spanish. It’s lovely to witness their growing confidence as they embrace a new language.
In Science, the exploration of ‘Animals including Humans’ has been exceptionally engaging. The pupils have studied the digestive system, identifying the different parts and their functions. We’ve also examined teeth—what they do and how to keep them healthy. Our discussions have extended to the food chain, where students have learned about the interconnectedness of various species and their roles in ecosystems. Understanding animal teeth has been particularly fascinating, as they discover how different species are equipped for their diets.
Finally, in Design Technology, we have embarked on a journey into electrical systems. Pupils have been introduced to the components needed for this, including bulbs, cells, wires, and batteries. They’ve been given the exciting challenge of designing a torch, which blends creativity with technical understanding. It’s exciting to see their innovative ideas come to life!
What a great start we have had to Year 4! Well done for all your hard work everyone and we hope that you have a relaxing and safe holiday.
