Tag Rugby- 3rd May 2017

Year 3 and 4 children were given their first taste of competitive Tag Rugby. A competition for all the Burnley and Padiham schools was held at BRUFC.  Well done to you all!

Gymnastics- 28th February 2017

Springfield CPS attended the annual Year 5 and 6 gymnastics competition held at the BEST Centre. The competition was attended by many of the local surrounding primary schools. The children chosen to attend from Springfield were; Holly, Kacie, Alfie, Jawad and David.

Thechildren had been working extremely hard for the weeks building up to the event, often sacrificing their own time before and after school. This dedication shone through in their performances in the competition. Each competitor had to attempt the vault (twice) and the floor routine. The floor routine included extremely hard moves (for Mr Brown), such as a round off for example. All of the children did fantastically well on the day. Special mention must go to Holly, who completed the vault for the first time, in a pressure situation.

Well done gymnasts!!!

Gymnastics- 7th February 2017

Springfield CPS attended the annual Year 1 and 2 gymnastics competition held at the BEST Centre. This was the first opportunity the school got to parade their new sports kit. The lucky children chosen to attend the competition and wear the new kit were; Sophia, Lucas , Rio-Lee , Beatris and Tia.

The competition consisted of 2 different events, the vault and the floor routine. Each child had to attempt both parts whilst being watched by the judges and the rest of the competitors. As nerve wracking as this may seem, all of the children gave fantastic performances and managed to finish a very respectable 13th.

Well done gymnasts!!!

Boccia Event- 23 November 2016

Springfield were invited to attend a Boccia hosted at and run by Ridgewood. The event was an introduction to the game of Boccia and was all about having fun and taking part.

Attending the event from Springfield were; Jake, Kayla, Jack, Zara, Cole and Ethan

There was lots of games being run by the ‘Sports Ambassadors’ from Ridgewood, all the games involved the skills needed in Boccia. One of the games that went down really well with the children was a game of ‘noughts and crosses’, Jake finished the game off with a superb last throw to give Springfield an enjoyable win against another school.

Springfield would like to thank the staff and children from Ridgewood for a fantastic morning.

Football Competition- 17th November 2016

Springfield attended the annual football competition hosted by BFC in the Community. All the schools from the surrounding area were invited to enter the competition, with the chance of representing Burnley schools in the next round.

Springfield’s Team consisted of; Logan, Preston, Leighton, Brandon, Lennon, Maleeha, Louie, Rocky and Ismaeel

The first game was a very closely contested match against Holy Trinity. Both teams were very evenly matched, neither team managing to find a clear chance. With seconds to go, Rocky played a fantastic ball through the defence to find Brandon in space. Brandon managed to fire a fiercely struck shot towards goal but the opposition keeper pulled off a fantastic save. The game finished as a very respectable draw. The following 3 games followed a similar pattern, Springfield pressed and pressed the opposition but unable to find the final touch. Unfortunately, Springfield were caught on the counter attack each game and finished each game behind.

Congratulations to the football team for their continued development and efforts.

Athletics Competition- 15th November 2016

Springfield attended the Sports Hall Athletics competition held at Unity College. The competition was hosted by the School Sports Partnership. The winners of the competition would advance to the next stage of the regional competition.

Attending the competition were:Tiegan, Kayleigh, Maleeha, Caitlin, Jawad, Ismaeel, Rocky, Brandon, Alfie and Leighton

Springfield started the competition on the back foot with 2 girls having to pull out of the competition at the last minute, leaving us short of numbers for the team. However, this did not deter the team and they remained as enthusiastic as ever.

The competition consisted of a number of different events that included; jumping, throwing and running. Throughout the competition the team never stopped smiling and putting an enormous amount of effort in. Although the results may not have gone our way Springfield’s determination cannot be questioned. Special credit must go to the girls of the team, they started with 2 less girls, meaning that they all had to do as much as double the running and throwing as all the other girls, they did this with double the effort and double the smiles. Well done team!!!

Tag Rugby- 19th October 2016

Springfield were sent a lovely letter- see above- for being awarded the maximum number of points for demonstrating their commitment to the ‘spirit of the Games’ values.  These values being respect, passion, teamwork, honesty, determination and self belief.  Well done to you all- we are so proud of you!

Football match at Springfield- 26th September 2016

Springfield played host to local neighbours St Stephens in the Hartley Cup.

The game started brightly with St Stephens taking advantage of the sloped pitch, scoring early. The visitors kept applying the pressure in the first half scoring another four goals. Springfield didn’t let their heads drop and kept attacking despite the pressure. The first half finished 5-2 to St Stephens. Springfield’s goals were scored by Ismaeel and Alfie.

The second half carried on with the same theme. St Stephens dominated possession and the chances. However, throughout the game Springfield continued to fight for everything and managed another couple of goals from Rocky and Ismaeel.

The game was a very fairly contested fixture, but unfortunately for Springfield, St Stephens finished 9-4 winners. Congratulations St Stephens and good luck in the next round

Tag Rugby at Sir John Thursby- 21st September 2016

Springfield’s rugby team attended a tag rugby competition at Sir John Thursby. The team consisted of two teams.  One from Y5 and one from Y6.

All the primary schools from the surrounding area were split into 5 different groups, each with 4 different teams in. The competition started well for Springfield, ending the first game with a very satisfying draw (3-3) with tries from Rocky, Alfie and Lennon. The following games were very evenly fought games, with Springfield finishing on the wrong side of the result, on each occasion only missing out by one try. As always, the children represented the school and themselves in a fantastic manner and showed true sportsmanship.
