Learn and Be Happy!
Class teacher – Mrs F Fairclough
Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs White and Miss Whittaker
School starts everyday with our morning work which consolidates our English and Maths work. During our school day we have lessons on Phonics, English, Maths, Science, Music, Computing, PE, Music, RE, PSHE and topic work. At the moment we are learning about Fire. This includes learning about The Great Fire of London.
We bring home a home reader everyday. It is important to read at home as well as school. We learn lots of new things when reading on our own, with a teacher or in small groups. Please have your reading pack in school every day as you never know when we might get a spare minute to read!
PE is on a Tuesday afternoon and a Wednesday morning. All PE kit should be kept in school. Please note all earrings need to be removed or covered with a plaster.
Home work is sent home on a Thursday and needs to be completed by Tuesday on the following week. It includes some maths work, some English work and talking homework. Homework will help to consolidate the learning taking place in class.
Autumn Term 1 2016

In RE our focus is Christianity. We are looking at how we behave towards others and how we can be kind to others.
In Computing we will be looking at keeping safe online and we will be learning how to create and debug simple programs
In Art we had a go at creating our own self portraits. We used the colour wheel to help us mix the correct colours.
Year 2 Fire Safety
Fire fighters visited the Fantastic Foxes on Wednesday 26th October. They talked to us about how fires happen, how we can help to stop them from happening and what to do if we are in a fire. They then went on to talk to us about how important smoke alarms are and told us we should talk about a fire plan so we know how to get out of our homes if there is ever a fire.
We did some role play, taking the role of a family who is woken up by a smoke alarm who follow a fire plan and the role of fire fighters who respond to the fire.

November 2016- One Goal Programme
During November we have had a visitor in class every Wednesday afternoon. Coach Hollingworth from One Goal came into class to work with us on developing the six habits. The six habits are:
Attitude – always smiling and being happy.
Behaviour – being kind to others and following instructions.
Courage – trying new things and being brave.
Determination – keeping going even if it is hard.
Enthusiasm – trying your best and never giving up.
Friendship – sharing and being a good friend.
These six habits are something that we should all be doing regularly. We are going to try to develop these.
We have played games such as Caterpillars where we had to get into a group and become a caterpillar and move as a team, like a caterpillar, through a hoop.
We also played a game called Hoop Challenge. We had to stand in a circle and pass a hoop around the circle, over our body without letting go of hands.
We did lots of group work where we had to work as a team. We had a dilemma to look at. Each group had a different card and we had to work together to follow the instructions on the card and to gather our ideas ready to answer our card.
We worked as a team to complete the Team Towers challenge. We had to work together to make the tallest tower we could from just paper and tape.
Christmas has begun in Year 2! We have a lovely Christmas reading area and will be taking part in lots of Christmas writing and creative activities.
Christmas around the World
