Lily Pad – Nurture (2020-21)

Lily Pad – Nurture (2020-21)

Lily Pad

Lily Pad is a specialised provision run by Mrs Phipps and Mrs Moffitt, who are fully trained Nurture practitioners.

Due to COVID 19 and current government restrictions, during the Autumn term our practitioners are providing specialist support within bubbles.

Autumn

Lily Pad is a little different this year due to current Covid-19 bubble restrictions so this half term we have Year 2 children attending Lily Pad three afternoons a week.

This half term our learning has been focused around the Julia Donaldson book ‘The Smartest Giant in Town.

We have been thinking about different emotions and feelings. We looked at emojis and tried to identify the emotion the emoji related to. Then using our knowledge, we identified how George the giant was feeling throughout the story.  Working as a team we then made buns that we decorated to look like an emoji. They were great fun to make and delicious.

Own part of the story

George was extremely helpful to many animals he met on his way home, so the children investigated different people who help us. The children identified lots of people including doctors, teachers, lifeguards, lollipop people and many more.

People who help us

In Music this half term we have learnt George’s song ‘The smartest giant in town’. Together we came up with images to help us learn the lyrics.

Throughout this half term we have been playing games helping us to learn to work together and to take turns. ‘Dressing George’ was one of the games we enjoyed playing where we had to roll a dice and each piece of his clothing corresponded to a number on the dice. The winner was the first to completely dress George.

During the run up to Christmas our role play area was turned into a wrapping station like one you might see at North Pole. To get us into the festive mood we made our own Snowman days till Christmas decorations. We were also joined by Buddy- Lily Pads own elf. Each day we had to spot what mischief Buddy had got up to. Having Buddy in class helped us to think about all the jobs that the elves do to help Father Christmas. We imagined what kind of elf we would be. Could we be an elf who makes the toys, helps Father Christmas with his naughty and nice list or maybe the elf who makes the toys? As if by magic we were also turned into elves!
