Autumn 2

Little Marvels have had a busy half term. We have been working hard and at the same time having lots of fun!

English:

In our English work, we have been learning about the different traditional tales and Little Red Riding Hood. We made a story map of Little Red Riding Hood so we could orally tell the story with picture prompts. Along with this, we have looked at the different features of a traditional tale, written our own character profiles, hot seated the different characters and even learnt how to change the ending of a story.

In our grammar lessons, our focus has been to think about writing our own sentence with a capital letter, finger space and a full stop.

Maths;

This term, we have been building up our knowledge of place value and applying it in addition number sentences. We have been making or own word problems and solving them. Little Marvels are beginning to develop their explanation and reasoning skills to solve simple word problems.

History

In our history lessons, we have been learning about the different explores and what they have done. We have been discussing the skills and characteristics different explorers would need to be a great explorer. Following on from this, we looked at how those qualities (resilience, courage, motivation) could help us in our everyday life.

Geography:

In our geography lessons, we have been trying to find out why penguins don’t fly. We have been looking at ‘Pip’ stories to help us recognise the features of a penguin and their habitat. We have also been looking at the North and South Pole and the different animals that live there Did you know that Antarctica is a desert as it hardly rains or snows there?

Science;

In our Science lessons, Little Marvels have continued to learn about the seasons. We have been learning the key differences between the seasons and language linked to the seasons.

Art:

During our Art week, we have been looking at drawing lines using different media. We have had an exciting week observing leaves and drawing them using pencils and charcoals. We have been thinking about shading and the different tones we can create.  Using rubbers, we experimented on making our charcoal background darker or lighter.

D@T:

We have made moving picture using traditional Tales as our background. As well as this, we have made reindeer photo frames to sell at our Christmas Fayre. We had to think about our design and what we would use to join the sides together. For our Christmas Fayre, we also made edible snowmen! We had lots of fun making all the different creative things.

Computing:

During our Computing lessons we have learnt how to log on and off sensibly. We are much more confident using our mouse to draw images. We used ‘2Paint’ software to draw our setting backgrounds for our moving pictures. Along with tis we have been learning how to log onto Purple Mash and use the tools effectively.
