Music

At Springfield, we follow an exciting Music Curriculum called ActivMusic. It teaches us about rhythm and pulse, pitch and using instruments. We develop these skills through singing and chanting games.

Take a look in each of the Year group folders to see what we have been learning in our Music lessons.

Year 2

2016-17

In Year 2 we have been learning about how to use the different musical instruments and listening carefully to the different sounds they make. We have also made up our own action for when we can play our instruments and another action for when we need to stop. We took it in turns to have a try with the different instruments. In the next few weeks we will be learning more about rhythm and making a musical sequence.

2015-16

Year 2 learnt a clapping song called ‘ABC’ and then split into partners to practise. We learn how to clap our hands to a steady pulse and how to move to a musical time frame. We also had to learn how to co-ordinate actions to cue words.

During the Autumn term we learnt lots of songs and chants that helped us to learn about following a rhythm and pulse in Music.

We learnt a song called ‘Boom chick-a-boom’ and chanted it together in different voices and changing the pitch. We also learnt ‘My name is Joe,’ which is an accumulative rhythm game with actions.

Watch our video of our chant ‘Grandma Grandma’ with actions.

Year 3

2016-17

2015-16

During the Autumn term we learnt lots of songs and chants that helped us to learn about following a rhythm and pulse in Music.

We played a rhythm game called ‘Who has a brother’, where we chanted questions to a pulse and the whole class joined in with the rhythm.

Watch our video of us playing ‘Knee knee clap clap’ which was very hard because we had to clap and chant in time with the pulse while thinking of an animal on our turn.

Year 5

2016-17

2015-16

During the Autumn term we learnt lots of songs and chants that helped us to learn about following a rhythm and pulse in Music.

We learnt the song ‘Tony Chestnut’ where we had to touch the part of the body which we said while chanting – toe, knee, chest, nut (head).

Watch the video of us chanting ‘Who has a brother’ where we made up our own questions to chant to the class and the class chanted back if their answer was yes.

Year 6

Spring Term 2017

BFGs have been focusing on using instruments to create and keep a beat. As well as this they have been finding the pulse and using the instruments to create music following that pulse.

2015-16

During the Autumn term we learnt lots of songs and chants that helped us to learn about following a rhythm and pulse in Music.

We learnt a song called ‘Down by the banks of the Hanky Panky’ where we sang in a rhythm and tapped our hands in time to the pulse. We also played a game called ‘Concentration’; we learnt a chant with actions which we did continuously to the pulse.

Watch our video of ‘Boom chick-a-boom’ where we chanted a song and made up actions, keeping in time to the pulse.
