This week has been exceptionally exciting at Springfield as the teachers all had a special mission- to get more children reading through story telling!
To add to the excitement we also had two visitors in school who conducted some story telling sessions.
On Wednesday Alec Williams , a trainer and speaker who has a background in children’s books and literacy, came into school to share stories and poems with all the children. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to him and were buzzing by the end of the day! Here are some children’s comments:
“I liked the actions and the puppets he was using best”
” The ‘Nagging’ story he told us was so funny!”
On Thursday Creeping Toad aka Gordon MacLellan visited. Here are some thoughts from the children after they spent the day with him.
“I liked how he was playing the drum and singing”
“We loved getting involved in the repeating stories – it was so fun!”
To end the week each class shared with the school a story that they had learnt off by heart, using Talk for Writing actions.
