Fantastic Foxes – Summer 2

The Year 2 children have worked incredibly hard all year and it has been a pleasure to watch them grow and make impressive progress.

At the start of this half-term we had a wonderful celebration in school to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The children learnt all about the Queen and her achievements, completed Jubilee artwork, including making crowns, and they enjoyed a delicious meal at lunchtime.

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from the Mayor. Each class had the opportunity to ask questions to find out more.

In Computing this half term, the children have been learning how to present ideas in different ways. We began by exploring how a story can be presented in different ways and the children created their own multiple choice question for it. We then started to make a fact file for a topic of their choosing.

In DT, the children have been researching vehicles as they will be making their very own moving vehicle in the final week of the term. They went outside to test a variety of vehicles on different surfaces to see how they performed.

Year 2 have had 2 PE coaches this half-term – one for dance and one for games. The children enjoyed learning routines in their street dance classes and they worked on their ball skills in games. We also made the most of the good weather and used the outdoor climbing wall.

During Science lessons this half-term we conducted a number of experiments. One of these was to test which ball was the bounciest! Again, we made the most of the weather and took part in lots of outdoor learning.

As an end of year celebration, we had a trip to Towneley Park. The children loved paying on the equipment and thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Our Maths lessons have been very productive, embedding arithmetic knowledge so that the children are ready for the Year 3 curriculum.

In English, we finished reading Egg Box Dragon. The children wrote their own original addition to the story and the added illustrations too.

In Music, we have studied graphic scores. Using the rhythm grid in Charanga Music Website, we have composed group graphic scores and then worked in pairs to create a simple graphic score. We used shapes initially then thought of our own symbols.

As the beat ticked we followed the shapes and chose different genre style backing music then joined in playing a percussion instrument.
