Hogwarts – Summer 2

English

In English this term we have been looking at the story Arthur and the Golden Rope. We learnt about how Arthur became an unlikely hero by saving his town from the mythical beast Fenrir. Looking carefully at the story, we wrote our own version of how Arthur was able to defeat the wolf and wrote our own Kenning poem to describe Fenrir.

Maths

We have looked at a lot of different things in maths this term. We have learnt how to change between km, m and cm, how to identify between acute, obtuse, and right angles and how to calculate the area and perimeter of shapes.

Science

I science we went to Towneley Park to look at the animal habitats there as well as what is being down to help animals in the area and how habitats may be being damaged. We were also lucky enough to look at a newt up close from the pond.

History

We have been looking at when the Vikings first came to Britain and started to invade churches and monasteries. We then looked at why Vikings started to settle in Britain and how Alfred the Great was able to create a treaty with them and create the Danelaw. We also investigated the features of Norse longships and why they were useful to the Vikings.

DT

We finished our trains for DT this term. We tested them to see which was the fastest and how straight our trains went. We then thought about how well our trains were built and how we could improve them.

PE

In PE we have been practicing our athletics skills including different throws and how to pass a baton in a relay race. We learnt how to throw a javelin, a shot put and a discus properly.

RE

In RE we have been investigating why churches are so important to Christians and if they need to go to church to show they are Christian. We explored what things Christians may do in a church and what the bible says about praying in private and in public.

Music

The children have been looking at triple time, performing, composing, singing rhythms and music which has a clear three-beat feel. They have learnt about an accent beat, where we hear the first beat played louder. They sounded out Greek God and Goddesses names, deciding how many beats to then complete a rhythm worksheet to write the a few names and their rhythm.
