Date and theme
7th and 8th January 2026 – Hazards
Week’s focus:
This week we focused on how to keep our body healthy and safe.
Learning Activities and Adventures
The children explored Spring Forest and spotted hazards and used signs to represent the hazards.
Skills & Learning Highlights
Children learnt about seasonal awareness, weather conditions, finding plants that may be a danger such as mushrooms and berries and other hazards such as the frozen pond and low hanging branches.
Reflections / What We Noticed
The group were surprised to see how many hazards were in Spring Forest. The children understood why we always have a safety talk before we go out.
Nature Connection / Observations
The group talked about how hard the playing field was under foot, even though the grass was wet and soft. Noticed how pretty the turkey tail fungi looked. Amazed how thick the ice was on the pond.
Children’s Voice / Quotes
Grace – “Someone could walk into this tree.”
Isabella – “I’m leaving a sign on the floor, because someone could slip on the mud and fall.”
Jupiter – “Be careful the wood is slippery.”
Carter – “Look! I found a sharp pointy stick.” (Remains of a firework)
Abdul – “Wow! The pond is frozen. It’s so cold.”
Benji – “Don’t climb onto the mud kitchen.”
