Date and theme
10th and 11th December 2025 – Campfire
Week’s focus:
This week we focused on how to cook over a campfire.
Learning Activities and Adventures
The children learnt how to roast over a fire.
Skills & Learning Highlights
Children listened and demonstrated how to be safe around fire. They know how to enter and leave the fire circle and to walk around the outside of the logs to find their place.
They learnt how to use toasting forks and knew how to rotate their fork to roast the pain au chocolate. They counted up to 10 before they tasted the pastry.
Reflections / What We Noticed
The group showed great care in cooking over the campfire and not touching the wood or ash with their food.
Nature Connection / Observations
The weather has been very gusty today and the children could see which direction the flames were blowing. They made sure to cook upwind and above the flame. They also noticed embers glowed bright orange and that the fire bowl is still very hot after cooking. They watched the water create lots of steam and fizzing sounds whilst the fire was put out.
Children’s Voice / Quotes
Leo – “I love having a campfire.”
Laney – “This is yummy!”
Rosie – “This is great fun.”
Carlton – “Can we do this again?”
