On Tuesday 14th November, we started our Anti-Bullying week and Empathy Action Week with a bang! Local author Shabana Hussain was invited in to read the stories that she has written and to discuss why she became an author, what made her write about bullying and feelings and to talk about the importance of empathy in our lives.
Through an assembly, she read through her story ‘Speak up Sami!’ which she wrote in 2022. She discussed the importance of speaking out about bullying and what it meant to be a bystander. She also talked about the importance of challenging bullies and how this could be done.
Year 3 & 4 were then lucky enough to complete a workshop about the story. As part of this drama workshop they put themselves in Sami’s shoes.
It was an amazing experience to get Shabana in to talk about the cultural hurdles she overcame to be become an author … What a journey!
