In June 2024, we proudly hosted a special day dedicated to Pendleside Hospice, a much-loved local charity that provides specialist care and support to individuals and families across Burnley and Pendle. Over the years, many families within our school community have been directly supported by the hospice, and this event was our way of giving back and saying thank you.
To show our support, children and staff were invited to wear yellow – the official colour of hospices – and the school was transformed into a bright sea of sunshine! The vibrant atmosphere reflected the warmth and compassion that Pendleside Hospice brings to those in their care.
We were honoured to welcome Leah Hooper, one of Pendleside’s dedicated organisers, who visited school to speak with the children about the hospice’s vital role in our community. Leah shared age-appropriate stories of the work they do, highlighting the importance of compassion, dignity, and support during some of the most difficult times families can face. For parents and carers, Leah also delivered a heartfelt message via Facebook Live, explaining how donations directly support the hospice’s work and encouraging the wider community to get involved.
Throughout the day, we ran several fundraising activities, including a second-hand book sale, a yellow-themed tuck shop, and a charity raffle. Staff, children, and families generously donated books, small items, and baked goods to help make the event a success.
Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our school community, we were thrilled to raise over £500 – a fantastic amount that will go directly towards funding patient care, family counselling, and community outreach at Pendleside Hospice.
This event not only raised money but also awareness, helping children understand the importance of caring for others and the impact that community support can have. We are incredibly proud of how our children embraced the spirit of giving, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Pendleside in the future.
Together, we made a difference.
