Springfield Community Primary School took part in this year’s Beat the Street campaign—organised by Alexis Turner at Burnley Leisure (BLC)—for the second time, and it was bigger and better than ever!
The initiative kicked off with a special assembly led by Alexis, who spoke passionately about the importance of walking and staying active within our local community. She highlighted how activities like walking, cycling, and running can not only improve our physical health but also support our mental well-being.
After the assembly, children received their maps and cards—and off they went! Competing alongside other schools across Burnley, our pupils enthusiastically took on the challenge. We even created a ‘Hall of Fame’ in school to celebrate our children’s efforts and give them a real sense of achievement and pride.
We kept the momentum going throughout the campaign by sharing updates and reminders on our social media channels. This year saw a noticeable increase in family participation, with many parents and carers joining in, sharing photos, engaging with themed challenges, and celebrating our progress through weekly leaderboard updates (as shown below).
As a result of our incredible effort—earning over 200,000 points—Springfield CPS has secured 40 trees to be planted in our local community! We plan to plant some of these on our school grounds, particularly in our Forest School area and other green spaces, helping to boost biodiversity and promote sustainability around our amazing school.
